About Pearl
Pearl, known as Moti (मोती) in Vedic astrology, is the organic gemstone associated with Moon (Chandra), the planet governing mind, emotions, mother, and intuition. Unlike other Navaratna gems that are minerals, Pearl is formed within a living organism — the oyster — which gives it a unique, gentle, and cooling energy. Ancient texts like Garuda Purana describe Pearl as the most sattvic (pure) of all gemstones, capable of calming turbulent emotions and bestowing mental clarity. When Moon is weak, afflicted by malefics like Rahu or Saturn, or placed in difficult houses (6th, 8th, 12th) in the birth chart, the native may suffer from anxiety, mood disorders, poor memory, strained relationship with mother, hormonal imbalances, and a general sense of emotional instability. Wearing a natural Pearl in silver on the little finger of the right hand can channelize positive lunar energy, bringing tranquility, improved intuition, and emotional resilience. The ideal Pearl for Jyotish purposes should be round, lustrous, and free from spots or surface irregularities. South Sea Pearls (white or cream) are considered most powerful, followed by Japanese Akoya and freshwater pearls. The traditional Basra Pearl, though now rare, is the most prized in Indian gem therapy. Pearl should be activated on a Monday during Shukla Paksha, ideally during the Hora of Moon, and worn consistently for it to deliver its full astrological benefits.
