What is Panchang?
Panchang is the traditional Hindu calendar and almanac. The name comes from Sanskrit 'pancha' (five) and 'anga' (limbs): for any place and day it gives five elements — Tithi, Vara, Nakshatra, Yoga and Karana — together with sunrise, sunset and the day's muhurtas. People use it to choose favourable times for ceremonies, festivals and new beginnings.
What are the five limbs of Panchang?
The five limbs are: 1) Tithi, the lunar day, set by each 12° of separation between the Moon and the Sun (30 per lunar month); 2) Vara, the weekday and its planetary ruler; 3) Nakshatra, the Moon's lunar mansion, one of 27 segments of 13°20'; 4) Yoga, one of 27 luni-solar combinations from the sum of the Sun's and Moon's longitudes; and 5) Karana, half of a Tithi (11 types). Today in New Delhi they are: Tithi Krishna Chaturthi, Vara Thursday (गुरुवार), Nakshatra Rohini, Yoga Parigha and Karana Bava.
What is today's Tithi?
At sunrise in New Delhi today (Thursday, 29 October 2026) the Tithi is Krishna Chaturthi (कृष्ण चतुर्थी), in Krishna Paksha, the waning Moon. A Tithi is a lunar day defined by the angle between the Moon and the Sun, so it begins and ends at varying times rather than at midnight; the Panchang names the Tithi running at local sunrise.
Which Nakshatra is it today?
At sunrise in New Delhi today the Moon is in Rohini (रोहिणी) Nakshatra, pada 4, whose Vimshottari lord is Moon. Rohini lasts until 11:13 AM IST, after which the Moon enters Mrigashira.
When is Rahu Kaal today?
Rahu Kaal in New Delhi today (Thursday) is 1:28 PM – 2:51 PM IST. It is one-eighth of the daylight between sunrise (6:30 AM) and sunset (5:38 PM); which eighth depends on the weekday, so the time shifts daily and from city to city. Yamaganda today is 6:30 AM – 7:54 AM and Gulika Kaal is 9:17 AM – 10:41 AM. Traditionally people prefer to begin important new ventures outside these windows; routine work carries on as normal, and these timings describe tendencies, not destiny.
What time is sunrise and sunset today in New Delhi?
Sunrise in New Delhi today is at 6:30 AM IST and sunset is at 5:38 PM IST, computed for New Delhi's coordinates with Swiss Ephemeris where available. The Vedic day, its Tithi and its horas all start from local sunrise.
When are Brahma Muhurta and Abhijit Muhurta today?
In New Delhi today Brahma Muhurta is 4:54 AM – 6:30 AM IST — the 96 minutes before sunrise, valued for meditation and study — and Abhijit Muhurta is 11:42 AM – 12:27 PM IST, the window around local noon traditionally considered favourable for important work.
What is the difference between Hora and Muhurta?
Hora divides the day into 24 planetary hours (12 from sunrise to sunset and 12 through the night), each ruled by one of the seven classical planets, starting with the weekday's lord at sunrise. A Muhurta is a specific time window chosen for an activity, such as Brahma Muhurta before dawn or Abhijit Muhurta around midday.
How is this Panchang calculated?
Every value is computed, not written by hand or by AI: planetary longitudes come from an astronomical ephemeris (Swiss Ephemeris where configured, with a standard fallback) using the Lahiri ayanamsa, and sunrise, sunset, Rahu Kaal and the horas are calculated for the selected place in its own timezone. Regional traditions can differ slightly, so for important observances compare with your family's or local temple's Panchang.
