Neither is better - they contain identical information, just displayed differently. The choice is usually based on regional tradition or personal preference. North Indian is more common in Northern India, while South Indian is preferred in Southern states.
In North Indian format, the Ascendant is always placed in the top-center box, and signs rotate around it. This makes it easy to identify which house each planet occupies but requires knowing which sign is the Ascendant.
South Indian format keeps signs in fixed positions (Pisces always top-left, Aries next, etc.). The Ascendant is marked where it falls, making it easy to see planetary sign positions but requiring calculation for house positions.
Yes, My Kundli AI supports both North Indian (diamond) and South Indian (grid) chart formats. You can switch between them based on your preference.
In South Indian charts, count clockwise from the Ascendant (marked with 'Asc' or 'Lag'). The Ascendant box is the 1st house, the next box clockwise is the 2nd house, and so on.
My Kundli AI lets you switch between North and South Indian chart styles. Generate your free Kundli and explore both formats.
